Gastfamilienbrief :)

Dear host family,

First of all I want to thank you for taking your time to read my letter. I really hope it won´t get too boring.
My name´s ***** and I´m currently 15 years old. If everything´s going as planned,
I´ll celebrate my 16th birthday in another country which is really exciting.
I´ve always been a person with wanderlust, who loves to travel and see as much of the world as possible. A while ago I decided that I want to make some more memories in my life.
Spending half of a year away from home and everything familiar sounds challenging but also awesome to me. Improving my english and learning about a whole new culture is just one of the reasons I can´t wait to start this project.

I think it´s kind of hard to describe your own peronality because you´ll always see yourself in another light than others. Anyways I hope I´ll find the right words to describe myself...
I would say that I´m a fun person to be around. My friends and I always have a good time together. I`m a good listener and if anyone has a problem, I´m there.
If i meet new people I can be quite shy at first but as soon as I´m comfortable around someone I´m totally myself.

I live in a nice house with a small garden together with my mom and my little dog called ***** .I love animals in general.I´ve wanted to have a pet since I was little and I can´t tell you how happy I was when I finally got my dog.I also have a bigger brother( *****) but he lives on his own for a few years now. He´s working at his fathers jewelry shop.
My mum´s a presenter at a local radiostation. I don´t really have grandparents or aunts and uncles, actually, I barely have any nice relatives. You see, my family is not the biggest but that doesn´t matter to me at all. My family means everything to me. We´ve been through a lot but we all stick together, no matter what. We always have a good laugh, which is very important to me. Lucky enough, I grew up in a very humorous family. They taught me that it´s important not to take things too seriously and that a little bit of humour makes life a lot easier. Still, we talk about serious topics as well and if I have a problem I know I can count on them.

The school I go to isn´t too big but it´s still impossible to really get to know everyone. Which is not bad because everybody has a group of friends and nobodys completly left out. I´m surrounded by great and unique people and I´m really happy to call them my friends. This also includes my best friend. I´ve known her for a long time.
Actually, I think it´s more than 11 years. With her on my side I enjoy going to school. Well, let´s say it makes school life much more bearable.
Let me describe a normal school day to you. My school starts at 7.45 am. So I normally have to get up at 6.00 am.On every weekday our schedule is different. During each lesson we have a break between 5 to 15 minutes.
School normally ends at 1.30pm. After that most of the students go home and eat lunch. Some of them go back to school in the afternoon to take part in sport activities.
School can be quite hard here because teachers demand really much from their students and we have a lot of tests. But the good thing about my school is that all the of the students help each other as much as they can. Also if you´re good at a subject or you like it a lot it can be really fun. My favorite subjects are English, German and Italian. So basically languages. My least favorite subjects are Maths and Chemistry.
I guess compared to my friends I´m an average student. I´m not extraordinary good but I´m definitely not bad.
Of course I started to think about what I want to do after school. Travelling would be the first thing that comes to my mind. Before that I´ll probably go to university. I´m not exactly sure about what I want to study though.
I thought about psychology because this topic is so interesting.

In my freetime I like to meet up with my friends and just have a good time. Sometimes we go shopping or in the cinema but mostly we meet up at each others places. It´s always much fun but to be honest, I still prefer to have a little bit time for myself. One of the things I really enjoy doing when I´m alone is reading. Nothing´s better than coming home from a stessful day, picking up your favorite book and just escaping into another world.
Writing is another thing i like doing. Not really storys or poems. Just about some topics I can´t get off my mind. But lately I didn´t have enough time or motivation to write something. But I´m sure as soon as the project starts I´ll start writing again.
I also really enjoy listening to music. My day starts and ends with music on.
Oh, and don´t worry I don´t mean Metal or Hard Rock. Something a little bit more quiet.
I like dancing too but more for myself. I´ve never been in some kind of Hip Hop club or something like that but if I´m home alone and good music is playing, I can´t stop myself from dancing.
Also i enjoy swimming a lot. I don´t have enough endurance for a swim team but
it´s definitely a hoppy of mine.
Apart from that I´m not really sporty.
If i ever have to run a mile you can directly call an ambulance.

So that´s me. I hope I gave you a nice first impression of myself and I can´t wait to meet you soon!

Lots of greetings,

*****

I see, I hope this helps.

Dear host family,

First of all, may I thank you for taking your time to read my letter.
I really hope, I will be answering all the questions you must have.

My name is ***, and currently I am 15 years old. If everything goes as planned,
I will be celebrating my 16th birthday in another country which is really exciting.

I have always been a person with wanderlust, who loves to travel and see as much
of the world as possible. A while ago I realised that I had the opportunity to widen
my horizon by gaining some more first hand experience. Spending half a year away
from home and everything familiar sounds challenging, but also awesome to me.
I am hoping to improve my English and learn some things about your culture,
which are my main reasons at this point. I can not wait to start this project.

I think, it is kind of hard to describe your own personality, because we will always see
ourselves differently compared to how others perceive us. Anyway, I hope to find the right words
to describe myself. My family and friends say that I have a good sense of humour,
I am outgoing and fun to be around. I am a good listener, and my friends can count on me
when they need help. We always have a good time together. When I meet new people
I may be quite shy at first, but as soon as I get to know them better I feel more comfortable
to be myself.

I live in a nice house with a small garden together with my mom and my little dog. He is called ***.
I love animals in general. Since I was young, I always wanted to have a pet. So I cannot tell you
how happy I was when I finally got my dog. My big brother, ***, has living on his own for a few years now.
He works at his father’s jewellery shop. My mum is a host at a local radio station.

I do not really have any grandparents or aunts and uncles; actually, I barely have any relatives.
You see, my family is not the biggest, but that does not matter to me at all. Together we have been
through a lot, but we always support each other. Therefore, my family means everything to me.
We often have a good laugh, which is very important to me. I have been lucky to grow up in
a very humorous family. They taught me that it is important to be optimistic and not to take
everything too serious. A little bit of humour makes life a lot easier. In addition, we talk about
serious topics as well and if I have a problem I know I can count on them.

The school I go to is not too big. So it is still possible to get to know everyone. This is really good,
because everybody has a group of friends and nobody is left out completely.

Some great and unique people surround me and I am really happy to call them my friends.
This includes my best friend ***. I have known her for a long time. Actually, I think it is more than
11 years now. I enjoy going to school with her on my side. I would say it makes the daily life at school
so much more fun.

Let me describe a normal school day to you. I normally have to get up at 6.00 am,
because my first lesson starts at 7.45 am. On every day of the week (Monday - Friday) our schedule is different.
Between lessons we have a break of 5 to 15 minutes. School normally ends at 1.30 pm.
Afterwards most of the students go home and eat lunch. Some of them go back to school
in the afternoon to take part in sport activities.

School can be quite demanding, because the teachers expect a lot from their students,
and we have to prepare for many tests. Fortunately, the students at my school help each other
as much as they can. My least favourite subjects are Maths and Chemistry, but I enjoy languages.
It can be really fun if you are good at something. My favourite subjects are English, German and Italian.
I guess, compared to my fellow classmates I am an average student. I am not extraordinary good,
but I am definitely not bad either.

Of course I started to think about what I want to do after school. Travelling would be the first thing
that comes to my mind, but I will probably go to university first. At this point in my life I am not exactly sure
what and where I am going to study. I have been thinking about psychology, because this topic is also
very interesting.

In my free time I like to meet up with my friends and just have a good time. Sometimes we go
to the cinema or go shopping, but we mostly meet up at each other’s places. Although it is always fun,
to be honest, I still prefer to have a little bit of time for myself.

One of the things I really enjoy doing when I am alone is reading. Especially after a stressful day
there is nothing I like more than coming home and picking up my favourite book to escape into another world.

Writing is another thing I am passionate about. Not poems or stories really - just to get something off my mind.
Unfortunately, I did not have enough time or the motivation to write anything lately. But I am sure
I will start writing again as soon as the preparations for my trip abroad start.

In addition, I really enjoy listening to music. Although, my day starts and ends with music you do not need to worry,
as I do not mean heavy metal or hard rock. I prefer something a little bit quieter.

I also like dancing, but I have never been in a club or anything like that. It is something
I do by myself when good music is playing – then I just cannot stop myself from dancing.

Swimming is another hobby of mine. Although, I do not have enough stamina for a swim team,
it is definitely something I enjoy a lot. Apart from that I am not really sporty. In case
I ever have to run a mile at high speed you may have to call an ambulance afterwards.

That is all I can think of at the moment. Please feel free
to ask me anything I may have missed to mention.

Thanks again for taking your time to read my letter [and considering me]. You didn't mention if you already secured the place there or not...
I am looking forward to meeting you soon.

Kindest regards,
***
