I am an American in Seattle who loves languages. I found your website because I am hoping to practice my German in addition to helping German-speakers with English. Your perspective on my language is fascinating! I also study Spanish and Chinese; soon, I hope to also study Russian and Farsi. (My bookshelf is packed with language books, and some day I shall master them all.)

Ich dachte some oder any wäre immer Pflicht...so wie "Do you want any milk?" und "Do you want milk?" wäre dann falsch?

It's not mandatory.Ich dachte some oder any wäre immer Pflicht...so wie "Do you want any milk?" und "Do you want milk?" wäre dann falsch?

I think what's most likely confusing you is that you don't quite get the real meaning of "some" and "any", and it is one of the most difficult things to explain to a German.
