Text about "Walk of Fame"

Today I will take you to a trip to Hollywood.

I will tell you something about the most famous Broadway on earth.

I think you can imagine what I talk about. You don’t?

Ok, I will tell you.

I want to talk about the Walk of fame”

I’m sure that you know it, but I want to tell you some facts, who you probably never heard.

I have separated my topic into five parts

I will start by telling you something about the walk of fame in general
.
My second point will be the different categories of stars,
then I will go on with history.
My next point are the terms of admission
and my last point is the summary.

Here we go.

---Walk of fame in general---
the walk of fame is a group of sidewalks along fifteen blocks in Hollywood boulevard and also three blocks of Vine Street in Hollywood, California. **you can see a map of it on this picture. ** There are more than 2400 stars embedded into these sidewalks displaying names of a mix of actors, directors, musicians and others. The walk attracts about 10 million visitors a year and therefore plays a big role in tourism.

---Categories and look---
now I will tell you something about the categories and the look of the stars. There are five different categories of stars which are: films, TV, music, radio and theatre. **here you can see the symbols for each category** and **here you can see an example of a star. ** each star is five pointed and made out of the materials terrazzo and brass. On the top of a star there's the name of the Honouree written and below there's a symbol for the category.

---Terms of admission---
now I will go on with the terms of admission. The official Criteria’s are the following three:
the 1st is: professional achievement in one of the five categories
the 2nd is: longevity of five years in the field of entertainment
and the 3rd is: contributions to the community

if someone wants to have his star made, he has to send his photo and a short CV to the Hollywood Historic Trust. There is also a charge of 30.000 dollars. Fans can also nominate someone, but only with the agreement of the person's management. Famous persons who are dead can only be nominated five years after their death. There are about 200 applications a year, but only about 20 of them get accepted.

If someone has his star made, he also gets a presentation ceremony where he or she unveils the star. **here you can see a picture of it**

---history---
the walk of fame was created in the year 1958 to give the city a face-lifting. There were made 2500 empty stars of which 1600 were assigned in the first 16 years. Since then there are about 20 new assignments a year.
In the year 1990 there were 2000 stars assigned and the walk of fame was enlarged to its current size.

The first star ever was made for the actress Joanne Woodward in the category films in February of 1960.

---summary---
the walk of fame runs 1.3 miles (2.1 km) and today there are a total of 2454 stars that honour well known persons like Muhamed Ali, Frank Sinatra, Michael Jackson and of course many more. Even mickey mouse or the dog lessie have their stars.
Thank you for listening.

I’m sure you have some questions to me? So if, you can ask me.

Ich habe einige Vorschläge und Korrekturen gemacht.

"Who" ist nur für Personen.
$30.000 = $30
"They" kann auch über nur eins Person benutzt sein, wenn man seine Geschlect weiß nicht. Wenn man weiß nicht, ob jemand ein Mann oder eine Frau ist, benutzt man "they".
A face lift ist was zu alte Frauen gemacht ist, weil sie jünger zu ansehen wollen. Ich denke, dass es nicht das Wort ist, das du suchst.

I'd suggest using "movie" instead of "film".
Reason: The category is not called "film" but "motion picture" and "movie" is just a short form of the latter. Also, some people require a "film" to have some artistic or educational value which is not required for a star on the Walk of Fame.

"They" kann auch für nur eine Person benutzt werden, wenn man ihr Geschlecht nicht kennt2. Wenn man nicht weiß2, ob jemand ein Mann oder eine Frau ist, benutzt man "they".
A face lift ist was zu alte Frauen machen, weil sie jünger zu ausehen wollen. Ich denke, dass es nicht das Wort ist, das du suchst.
1 - In English you would say: "They" can also be used for just one person if you don't know their gender.
The logical structure of that sentence can be found in German, too. Yet, you have to apply some of the special rules of German word order.

English is almost exclusively SPO while German is a SOPV2 language meaning subject-object-predicate but the finite verb is fixed in second position (yes we are a funny people).
Now before it becomes too confusing I'll use the English sentence to construct the German word order.
Subject: "They"
Predicate: can also be used
The finite verb is always the first part of the predicate in English thus: can
There is no true object but a prepositional object: for only one person.

Starting with the SOP-part of SOPV2 we get:
"They" for only one person can also be used.

Now I apply the V2 rule. Without going into too much detail I just tell you here that "also" moves along with the finite verb "can". "Can" must be put after the subject, because that's the second position of the clause:
"They" can also for only one person be used.

And finally, in German the verb "be" comes last in the predicate unless it itself is the finite verb of the predicate (which would mean that you'd have to apply the V2 rule):
"They" can also for only one person used be.

SPOV2 is a bit more difficult to apply than SPO and I don't think its very useful when you are trying to speak or even when you are trying to write something. It's usually best if you just get that feeling of "right", but it can help you understand why sometimes the word order is not as you'd expect.

2 - "Kennen" is used to express "know + object/property". e.g: I know the name of the street = Ich kenne den Namen der Straße. I know the rules = Ich kenne die Regeln.
"Wissen" is used to express "know + fact". e.g: I know how that works = Ich weiß wie das funktioniert.
However, it is not always clear if the thing you know is a fact or an object. You can, for example view "the name of the street" as a fact and say "Ich weiß den Namen der Straße". In your sentence "Geschlecht" clearly is a property and you have to use "kennen" but "ob jemand ein Mann oder eine Frau ist" is a fact and you have to use "wissen".
