Application for volunteer service as Homework Assistant at yxyx School

Dear Sir or Madam,

While working with children for three years now, I realized that they are the future of our world. Paired with the wish of being useful after 13 years of school and my Abitur, I decided to apply for volunteer service at your school, because it is the perfect place of work for me.

I’m yxyx yxyx, 19 years old, and I know that I can help the best at yxyx School, because I already have socio-educational experience after working two years as Homework Assistant in my school. Also being involved in another pedagogical project, I gave private lessons to pupils in every school subject.
My motivations for this work are the children. I like children very much. Because they are all different, the teamwork is never the same and we can learn from each others.
In yxy, the culture is totally different to the culture of my native country.
Being tolerant means to me being curious of the diversities, open-minded to the people and respect the rules.
I really like exploring other cultures which I found out when I did my first student exchange. It was such an inspiring and exciting experience not living at home, that I did four student exchanges to yxy, xyx and yxy. Especially during the three month in yxy I mentally grew up which also means that I learned to act responsible in my own initiative. This quality could be helpful in yyx, too.
While working at yxy School as a German volunteer, I would also be a intermediary between the cultures. In our globalised world it is important to get to know your fellow men for clearing up prejudices. I am very curious for example if it is right that the Indian caste system is still present.
Anyway, I imagine a very colourful India with new smells that I never smelt before, delicious food with unknown spices and friendly people, all speaking different languages.
I will learn Hindi, because I feel good speaking other languages and the communication with the children would be easier. But actually my English will still be my best foreign language, and this is very important when you want to tutor children in this school subject.

Being motivated to engage in India and Germany for a better world, especially for equal possibilities and education for everybody, I look forward to hearing from you.

Yours sincerely,

yxy yxy

Dear Sir or Madam,

My name is yxyx yxyx, and I am a 19 years old girl from [name of next big town], Germany.

A few years ago I realised that children are the future of our world which motivated me to [work with/support]
them for 3 years now. After 13 years at school and [earning my A-Levels this summer /
having earned my A-Levels recently], I wish to put my education and experience to use.
Therefore, I decided to apply for the voluntary position at your school. Because, I think, it will be the perfect place to work for me.

I know that I can be of great help at yxyx School, because I already gained socio-educational experience
during the two years I worked as the Homework Assistant in my school. I also provided some pupils with
private tutorials for every subject they had problems with.

My motivation for this work is the support and development of the children. I like children very much.
I think, we can learn from each other. Their teamwork, for instance, is quite different to adults as
they are more open to cooperation and less concerned with individual rivalry.

I expect the Indian culture to be quite different to the culture of my home country which is exciting as I really like to explore other cultures.
My curiousity and open-minded acceptance of the diverse customs and beliefs held by other people are a good foundation for my work.
I realised this during my first student exchange to ...

Not living at home was such an inspiring and exciting experience, that I participated in four student exchanges to yxy, xyx and yxy.
These trips allowed me to mature mentally, develop my independence and take responsible actions upon my own initiative. I think,
those qualities could also be very helpful in yyx.

While working at yxy School as a German volunteer, I would also like to be a mediator between our cultures.
I think, that in our globalised world it is important to get to know your fellow men to reduce or avoid prejudices.

Anyway, I imagine a very colourful India with many new smells, delicious food with unknown spices and friendly people, that speak many different languages.
So I would like to use my stay as an opportunity to learn Hindi, because I hope this would ease the communication with the children and fellow staff.
Although I assume that I will mainly use English when tutoring the children at school.

I am highly motivated to work (with children) in India and Germany - especially for equal educational opportunities for everybody,
and I am looking forward to hearing from you.

Yours sincerely,

yxy yxy
"I learned to act responsible" means to behave like a (normal) adult/grown-up

I'd strongly advise you to avoid mentioning the caste system in your (initial) letter
if you (a foreigner) want to convince them that you're tolerant towards other cultures.

May I recommend you to start learning Hindi in Germany - every little helps ...
you can use the Internet, uni/city library etc.
