Hallo, da mein Englisch nicht gerade das beste ist wollte ich fragen ob mir hier netterweise jemand helfen könnte und meine Analyse zu der Kurzgeschichte "Dead Men's Path"korriegieren könnte.

The story “Dead Men's Path“ by Chinua Achebe was first published in 1953. Achebe was born in south-eastern Nigeria in 1930. He often writes critically. The story is about the conflict between the original African culture and the modern, western culture. The other theme is the force of religion. His story “Dead Mens's Path“ is about Michael Obi and his wife Nancy. The short story set in Nigeria. It begins when Michael was appointed as headmaster of the Central school in January 1946. He want's to modernize the school and broadcast his western view of live. Michael and his wife want to turn the schoolyard into a graden with beautiful flowers. One day while his work in the school he saw an old woman walking across the garden. Michael go outside and saw a pathway thar crossed from the village to the school. Michael Obi talks with a teacher about this path. The teacher explains him that the path is realy important for the people in the village because the path connects the villagers with their place of burial. Michael think this is an old- faschioned superstition and wants to wipe it out, so he close the path and so starts a serious conflict with the villagers. The village priest Ani went to talk with Michael. He is Obi's opposite. Ani is a tolerant, religious man. The priest support the villagers and their traditions, he tries to explain Michael the importance of the path. Ani is willing to compromise, but Obi is not interested . A few day's later a young woman dies in childbed and Michael Obi find the schoolyard and one of the schollbuildings destroyed. On this day the Supervisor came the Supervisor to inspect the school. Bacause of the destroyed and for causing a tribal war situation Michael Obi get a bad report.
“Dead Men's Path“ is told by an omniscient narrotor, you see this for example here: “Three day's later (...)“ (p.112, l.12). The narotor speak often about Michael Obi's opinion and his attitude. In the short story are also dialogues between the protagonists. The language in “Dead Men's Path“ is mostly easy to understand: Chinua Achebe used a numerous images in the text, for example: “let the hawk perch and let the eagle perch“ (p.112, l. 32/33). As stylistic devices Achebe used irony and exaggerations: “We cannot alow people to make a highway of our school compound“ (p.112, l.18/19). And he used sarcasm: “I don't suppose the ancestors willfind the little detour too burdensome“ (p.113, l. 37). This shows Obi makes fun of the priest and his religion. Obi doesn't count other opinions. He is a not unhandsome 26 years old man , but looks older. Sometimes he acts intolerant. Michael has a modern way of thinking: infected by his passion for modern methods (...)“ (p.110, l.7/9). He is survived by his young wife Nancy. She think like Obi, is a copy of him. Nancy has the same modern way of thinking and she finds the European lifestyle is right. I think Achebe wants to tell us with his story something about intolerance in our world.
Achebe shows us that you have to make compromises. In the story Michael Obi doesn't respect the priest Ani's religion and call the beliefs of the villagers superstition. Michael doesn't try to understand what the priest say and maintains on his own opinion. Both sides cannot accept the position of the other ans finally both parties lose. The author wants to show us with “Dead Men's Path“ that progress can only be achieved in cooperation with the people concerned.

Achebe shows us that you have to make compromises. In the story Michael Obi doesn't respect the priest Ani's religion and calls the beliefs of the villagers superstition. Michael doesn't try to understand what the priest says and his own opinion is not swayed. Neither side can accept the position of the other, and finally, both parties lose.
