do I say:

they must type their own letters on/with their PC's?

Damit es irgendwie englisch klingt, solltest Du es umschreiben, etwa:

They have to use their PCs to write their own/private letters.

Geht das auch?

Mit "on" habe ich kein Problem, allerdings würde ich sagen "They have to type the letters on their computers."
Für die Formulierung "type on the computer" gibt es ausreichen Beispiele von Muttersprachlern.
