TOEFL practice - Pls critic my essay;)

Hey guys,

I wrote another essay as practice for my toefl test. Therefore, would you be so kind to read it and point out what you think its good and what can be done better!!!
When people need to complain about a product or poor service, some prefer to complain in writing and others prefer to complain in person. Which way do you prefer? Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.

Some people think that you need to compain about a product or service directly in person. Others think that you should complain by writing a letter at the company. The issue is a controversal one, but in my opinion a closer examination reveals that complaining in person has much more positive than negative aspects for several reasons. In this essay I will explain my position providing examples to support my claim.

One reason why complaining in person is more effective is that you can argument more effectively. Doubtless when you come into a local store and you argue about a product you have a much better chance to get refund than when you argue in writing. Therefore I always buy my products at my local store, even if they are a little bit more expensive than somewhere else. For example, when I bought a hair dryer at a local store I was really happy about my it. However after a month my new dryer didn`t work anymore and I went back to the store. The storekeeper understood my complain and gave me a full refund of the dryer. In fact I bought another dryer from the refund at the local store, but now I am really happy with the new product.

Another reason is that when you complain in person you can be much better prepared than when you write a letter. Usuallly big firms do not want to complain with their customers. Therefore if you go to somebody at a big firm you have a big chance to present the right arguments that you get a refund. To illustrate this point, let`s take an example, when I bought my computer, it was extremely expensive. Therefore I was very sad when it got broke. However, I went to HP, the big firm I bought my computer, and argued about the product. At first they didn`t want to understand my complains, but after some time they offered me a free repair service.

On the other hand, some may argue that you chances at finding a person at a big company are extremely low. These individuals may point to the exampe of successful complaints by letters. However, in my experience there is a much higher chance of getting a refund or a discount when you argue in person. It is very possible that your complain letter will not ever read by anybody at a big firm.

In summary, while there are arguments to me made for both sides, it is clear that there are greater advantages for complaining direcly in person because you have a much higher success rate of the above mentioned reasons. Certainly, the argument for the arguments for in person communication outweights the arguments for the per letter communication. Hence, I recommend that everybody should go to their seller of the product and argue about problems of it!

THANKS IN ADVANCE!!!

Was mir beim ersten durchlesen so aufgefallen ist.

Den ganzen letzten Absatz würde ich nochmal komplett überarbeiten. Das klingt teilweise wirklich schlimm ... z.B. "The arguments for the arguments". Am Rande bemerkt sagt man "for the above mentioned reasons" und nicht "of the above mentioned reasons".

Ich hoffe dir hilft das ein bisschen weiter ... wenn es nicht schon zu spät ist :)
