a The Celts
The first Celtic tribes had arrived (arrive) in Britain about six centuries befor the Romans invaded (invade) the country. Thes tribes had even lived (even live) there for more than 1000 years when the Angles and Saxons begun (begin) to settle in Brittain in about 400 AD. After the Celts had lost (lose) several terrible battles against the Angles and Saxons, they escaped (escape) to the hills of Cornwall, Scotland and Wales.
b The Angles and Saxons
Before the Angles and Saxons came (come) to Britain, they had lived (live) in what it is toady Denmark and Northern Germany. The Angles and Saxons were able (be able) to settle in Britain quite easily because the Roman army had already left (already leave) Britain. For the Celts life under the Angles and Saxons wasn't (not be) as peacefull as it had been (be) under the Romans.
