On Thursday I have a book presentation and need someone to correct one part of my presentation.


Why this novel is not the most romantic story ever written:

This book was not half as good as I had expect it to be. The story itself was boring and meanwhile I wanted to put the book away. I can not say why this draggy book is so famous. The main character, Holly, has no personality and is just a dumb girl who wants to marry a rich men, regardless which age or handsomeness. In my eyes she is not a role model – she is egoistic and not able to give love. In addition I can not find the romance in this story! Holly does not love anyone and the narrator is gay, in accordance to the author, - they have some feeling for each other in line with friendship, but this feeling is not that strong.

The happy ending in the film seems to be forced and I liked the movie only because of Audrey Hepburn. I am very disappointed in this book and for me it is not the most romantic story ever written but rather the most boring story I have ever read.

I really hope that someone can find the time to help me! I am thankful for every help.

1 - Man sagt zwar auf deutsch "zwischendurch", aber auf Englisch würde ich das nicht machen. Diese Korrektur mit often ist nur eine Möglichkeit, die mit wenig Änderungen auskommt. Ich würde meanwhile hier als inzwischen verstehen und nicht als zwischendurch.

2 - Ich verstehe leider nicht worauf du hinaus willst.

3 - Naja, ich würde es als movie bezeichnen und nicht als film.

4 - Vermute ich jedenfalls.

2. Damit meine ich, dass der Protagonist, laut dem Autor, schwul ist
& dass beide zwar Gefühle für einander haben,
aber nur auf einer recht niedrigen freundschaftlichen Ebene.

Aber narrator ist der Erzähler und nicht der Protagonist. Und wer hat jetzt Gefühle für wen? Nach deiner Satzstellung haben der Protagonist und der Autor freundschaftliche Gefühle füreinander.

Ja, dass weiß ich. Der Erzähler des Buches ist jedoch gleichzeitig auch der Protagonist.
Eher selten ist der Autor auch gleichzeitig der Erzähler!

Nein. Der Erzähler, der gleichzeitig auch Protagonist ist, hat freundschaftliche Gefühle für Holly. ich dachte ich müsste den Namen nicht explezid erwähnen, da es aus dem Zusammenhang des längeren Textes klar wird. Es geht um das Buch "Breakfast at Tiffany's"
