Within the framework of a project we had the honour to interview Professor Noam Chomsky, the “world’s top intellectual” according to the New York Times about his opinion concerning the “American identity”.
The project “Journey into America”, led by Professor Akbar Ahmed, a renowned Islamic scholar and author, basically is a cross-country adventure dealing about the American society.
Professor Chomsky seemed very interested in the work and the project itself. He mentioned many important aspects and core features what America means to people as, for instance, civil rights and democracy. In the very beginning he mentioned that America is a country of immigrants. Originally mostly were English, but also German, Irish, Swedish or south-eastern European origin. Still today there is migration from India, China and so on. That is why America is a so-called “melting pot”.
As there has been a lot of mythology in America, the role of fear has played in shaping the American identity. Americans did not only have a negative image of Muslims, but also of other foreign immigrants. Looking at America’s history we can discover that Native American, black people and recently Chinese were harshly repressed. A politics of fear was ubiquitous. A fear that great “enemies” would take over the country and destroy it. This has led to many ethnic conflicts in the “melting pot”.
Concerning the Muslim, the Americans have also found a new threat in the Muslim society due to 9/11.
Professor Chomsky suggests that, investing together in education and projects in which both ethnic groups work to eliminate prejudices, would improve the relationship between those peoples again.
Danke!

You need to look at these sentences again and rewrite them a bit.
