One little grammar question

I just had a discussion about one sentence and want to hear other opinions or explanations about it.

Which one is correct or are both of the sentences correct?

"The students have been taught at the University since 1989."

"The students are taught at the University since 1989."

I just had a discussion about one sentence and want to hear other opinions or explanations about it.

Which one is correct or are both of the sentences correct?

"The students have been taught at the university since 1989."

"The students are taught at the university since 1989."

Grammatisch gesehen ist nur der erste der beiden Sätze richtig, weil in ihm das Present Perfect verwendet wird. Diese Zeitform verbindet, wie Du sicher weißt, im Englischen die Vergangenheit mit der Gegenwart. Will sagen: die Handlung "Studenten unterrichten" begann in der Vergangenheit (1989) und dauert heute noch an.

Hier unterscheiden sich das Englische und das Deutsche. Dein zweiter Satz nimmt die Verwendung des Präsens im Deutschen auf. Aber hier unterscheiden sich eben die theoretischen Ansätze der beiden Sprachen. Das Englische verwendet genau für diese Fälle das Present Perfect.
