Überarbeitung A Day's Wait

Habe den Rat befolgt und poste hier meinen nächsten Versuch. hoffe, dass es diesmal richtig ist. Wenn nicht , werde ichs noch mal überarbeiten müssen.

We find out that the (sick) child is the son of the man, who tells the story. The father calls his son "Schatz", so they are not Americans. Maybe they are German. The doctor had told to the child that he had a temperature of one hundred and two degrees Fahrenheit and so he thoughts that he must die because he had misunderstand that he has a temperature of forty four degrees Celsius. The father take care of his son. He stays by him and he is loving (liebevoll) to him. But they do not talk to each other open because the boy want (to) protect his father. He wants that his father go out because he does not want that he must see him die. The father does not see that his son is afraid and why. He does not see that the boy thoughts that he must die. The father talks about the disease and thechild about his death and so they do not know that they talk about two different things.

Hemingway's short story "A Day's Wait" is a first-person narrative. We find out that the nine-year-old (sick) child is the son of the man who tells the story. It is remarkable that there are hardly any direct descriptions of the two main characters. All relevant information is presented in what they say to each other - very little, all in all - and in the way they behave towards each other. The father calls his son "Schatz", so they are probably not American by birth. Maybe they are German. Later it turns out that the son used to visit a school in France.

The boy's mother is not mentioned, it is the father who looks after the sick child, calls a doctor, administers the medicine and reads to his son. But the child neither speaks nor reacts to this. His father assumes that this is due to his illness. When the boy tells him to go out he does not ask questions but enjoys a few hours hunting with his dog. Only when he comes back does he find out what is really bothering his son:
When the doctor had mentioned that the child's temperature was one hundred and two degrees, the boy was immediately convinced  that he would have to die. But instead of telling his father about his fears he keeps quiet and fatalistically awaits death, obviously because he wants to protect his father.
Only at the end of the story is the misunderstanding revealed that doctor and child were thinking in different units of temperature measurement: the European Celsius and the American Fahrenheit.  

So we can say that while the boy does not really behave like we would expect a child of his age to behave but seems to accept his fate in a surprisingly fatalistic way, the father does not see that his son is afraid and why.
They do not really communicate and when they do they misunderstand each other at first. The reader feels that the father should have tried to find out what was bothering his young son. Because when the misunderstanding is explained we see that his seeming fatalistic acceptance was only a show and that really the young boy is only a frightened child.

Viele Vorschläge und ich denke mal wieder, dass da das eine oder andere Pferd mit mir durchgegangen ist...Sorry! Nimm davon, was Du brauchen kannst, verändere es ruhig, aber baue nicht zu viele Fehler ein , das wäre ja schade...

Diesen Satz baue ich in meiner 3. Antwort mit ein, weil ich denke, dass es da besser reinpasst, da es da um das Missverständnis geht.
