Dors Keller "The flight"
Hallo. Hab hier wieder Aufgaben zu einem Text. Kann bitte jemand sich das anschuen auf Fehler und Rechtschreibung? Danke.
1) What i srelationship between the old man and his birds?
2)Comment on the author´s use of
a)symbolism and
b)poetic language Doris Lessing - „Flight“
1) The old man is very jealous on the boyfriend of Alice and is possessive, too. He fears that Steven takes his favourite granddaughter away from him. This fear he carries on his birds. In the beginning he shuts them up, but later he realized that what he does is wrong and he let them fly, like he learned that what he does to Alice is wrong and let she go. 70
2) This story is very obviously one where symbolism is very important to our understanding. For the old man is Alice like his favourite pigeon. The old man can keep the birds in, but he can´t control Alice. But as he get the new pigeon, he realized the favourite: he accept that shutting it in isn´t right. The gift also suggest that there may be some compensation for the old man in the new situation. But really he knows that nothing can make up for the loss of his last grandchild.
“Flight” is written in third person but it´s told from the old man´s point of view. This shows us what the old man is going through and what he thinks. The other views of points the narrator describes in their own dialogues. The narrator describes the other characters of this story from the point of view of the old man. Alice and her 3 sisters are his own for him and Steven is someone who takes one of them away. This story is dramatic. A lot of it is in the form of conversation. While Lucy is calm and reasonable, the old man and Lucy quarrel like children. Note how the old man speaks with Alice “Hey”, “Waiting for Steven, hey?” and “Think you´re old enough to courting, hey?”.

Hi Vitalik2,
wenn Du große Teile Deiner Ausarbeitung einfach aus dem Internet abschreibst,
http://www.teachit.co.uk/armoore/anthology/flight.htm
