The task: Present a written argument or case to an educated reader with no specialist knowledge of the following topic: Many old buildings are protected by law because they are part of a nation's history. However, some people think old buildings should be knocked down to make way for new ones because people need houses and offices. How important is it to maintain old buildings? Should history stand in the way of progress? You should use your own ideas, knowledge and experience and support your arguments with examples and relevant evicence. Write at least 250 words.

I had difficulties writing this text. Do you think it is okay like this? Do I answer the questions from the task well enough and is my text coherent? Or are there any strange expressions or wordings? What Should We Do With The Old Buildings?
If you walk around old city centres such as the Vienna Inner City, you can see almost only old buildings, many of which are under monumental protection. Overlooking the historical dimension, some people claim that these buildings take up precious space and that it would sensible to replace them with new ones.
However, they are ignoring the fact that the old buildings and their unique architecture greatly contribute to the view and atmosphere of a city. This might also be the reason why many tourists come thousands of miles to see the Vienna Inner City; and others might even move there because they are fond of that. You do not need to be interested in history to enjoy the fantastic atmosphere there.
And to be honest, most of the old buildings are still in good shape and perfectly usable for offices or housing if you renovate them. If there are a few individual houses of low standard simply take up space and cannot be used or renovated anymore, I think it is best to just knock them down and build a new one, as long as you keep the majority of the old houses. This way, people who enjoy modern buildings are also satisfied and the original cityscape is also preserved.
If all the old buildings were knocked down, it would not only be the traces of the past that were blotted out; also our culture of today that so many people appreciate and adore would be destroyed. Thus, replacing the old houses with new ones would be sheer madness.
I would really appreciate any help.
