I've just asked myself in which cases I have to put the preposition "to" after the word "write" and couldn't answer my question. Could you explain it to me, please?

Tatsächlich gehen beide Varianten, besonders im lockeren Gespräch und wohl auch im AmE wird das "to" gerne weggelassen.
Ansonsten gilt als Regel, dass "write" mit "to" verwendet wird, wenn der Satz kein Akkusativobjekt (= direktes Objekt) hat:
"Write to me when you get home."
Aber das "to" kann weggelassen werden, wenn ein Akkusativobjekt vorhanden ist:
"Write me a letter!"
