Letter of motivation for an exchange semester

Beitrag von man_yon »

I want to apply for an exchange semester at an American university. The first step in the application process is to write a motivation letter to my own university. I have given this a lot of thought and I was wondering if someone could give me some feedback on this letter. I would highly appreciate it!

Dear Sir or Madam

The ... University is one of the leading management universities in the world. Therefore, my decision to choose this extraordinary university - with all the opportunities implied - was obvious. What is more, the exchange programs offered by this university were one decisive fact for choosing this university and so I am pleased to address my application for University of ABC a for the summer semester 20.. to you now.

For me personally, doing an exchange semester is an integral part of my studies. I would like to seize this invaluable opportunity which is an incredible chance to broaden my horizon and develop my personality. I am looking forward to meeting people from all over the world, getting to know their beliefs and opinions and learning to deal with differences . If nothing else, the deeper understanding of the US American culture I would gain from this exchange semester would certainly be an invaluable asset when it comes to starting a career in the US/ improve my post-graduate employment prospects in the US.

Another important reason for applying to an American university is that I want to improve my command of English so that I am able to successfully complete an English-speaking master's program. What is more, I find it particularly interesting to get an insight into the way American professors teach and how they deal with study-related topics.

I chose to apply for University of ABC because of its outstanding reputation and its high number of international students. The diverse community is a true reflection of its special location in the heart of a dynamic world center. Thus, I believe ABC is the ideal place for people that want to study in a multicultural environment. Aside from this, I am absolutely fascinated by ABC's art and cultural scene and I believe that studying abroad in one of the world's most important financial centers will be very beneficial to my future career and will improve my post-graduate employment prospects.

It would be my pleasure to represent the ... University at the University of ABC during the summer term 20.. . I regard the exchange term not only as a great chance to enlarge my professional knowledge, but also to enrich my abilities in the social and intercultural fields. Thus, I would highly appreciate the opportunity to be invited for a personal interview.

Sincerely yours,

I hope someone has time to help me,

thanks in advance

The last sentence in this paragraph seems strange to me. Perhaps you can re-write it.

(An American would probably say "What is more, I'm particularly interested in experiencing....")

Sincerely yours,
Wow! Your English is great, and it will probably be flawless after living in the US. Everything was technically correct, but I changed some phrases that didn't sound like a native English-speaker's. I wish you luck in your studies!
