The song text “Fast car” by Tracy Chapman takes part of a girl who wants to leave her home. She wants to leave her home because her father doesn’t work and he is an alcoholic. Her mother leaves them because she wants more from her live and he can’t give it to her. The girl and her boyfriend move to the city with a fast car. But at the end nothing was how she wants it. Her boyfriend doesn’t look after them he drinks all day a bar and she works at a market as a checkout girl. Her plan is failed.

The young girl in the text was unhappy because in line 6 she said:” anyplace is better
starting from zero got nothing to lose”. She is unhappy because her father has a drinking problem and her mother leave them. She quit school to work and look after her father. All of this she wants to have a new life because she doesn’t know how it is to have a life she sees her life as nothing (line 16: and finally see what it means to be living). The girl thinks that she is a nobody because in line 34 she said: “I had a feeling I could be someone be someone be someone”. She meant that they would otherwise not be responsible for
important. And when she drives with the car she knows that she is someone, too. I have the impression that she was somebody at this moment because of this fast car. The turning point in this song text is in line 51 because from that moment her plan starts to fail. She dreams from a big house and a promotion in her job. But nothing is like in her dreams. And at last she takes the place of her mother because her mother had the same problems.

In my opinion I think that the parents are blame for the girl’s unhappy life. I understand that this girl wants to escape because nobody wants an unhappy life. And I think when she leave her home lonely than she might a happy life. I think all she ever wants was to live a little bit of the American Dream.

Hallo Hilal2323! Weiter so :big_thumb:
Hilal2323 hat geschrieben:The song text"FastCar"by Tracy Chapman tells the storyof a girl who wants to leave her home. She wants to leave her home (wenn man so einen ganzen Satzteil wiederholt, klingt es so, als würde man versuchen seinen Text aufzublähen, weil man nicht genug zu schreiben hat, was bei dir offensichtlich nicht der Fall ist!) because her father doesn't work and he is an alcoholic. Her mother has already left them because she wanted more from her life and he couldn't give it to her. The girl and her boyfriend move to the city in a fast car. But in the end, nothing turns out the way she wanted it. Her boyfriend doesn't look after them and hasn't found a job; he drinks all day at a bar while she works in a market as a checkout girl. Her plan has failed.

It is clear that the young girl in the lyrics was unhappy in her old life, because in line 6 she says: "Anyplace is better /Starting from zero, got nothing to lose". She is unhappy because her father has a drinking problem and her motherhas left them. Shehasquit school to work and look after her father.Because of all of this, she wants to have a new life;because she doesn't know (oder: "has never known")what it is liketo have a'real'life, she sees herown as nothing (oder: "she feels that, up to now, she has indeed been alive, but has never really lived") (line 16:"And finally see what it means to be living"). The girl makes it clear that she thinks that she is (oder: "considers herself") a nobody by emphatically repeating in line 34:"I had a feeling I could be someone,be someone,be someone". She mean that they would otherwise not be responsible for important.Dieser Satz ergibt leider wenig Sinn. Was willst du eigentlich damit ausdrücken? And when she drivesin the car she knows that she is someone, too. I have the impression that she felt like she became somebody at this moment because of this fast car. The turning point in this song text is in line 51; because from that moment on, her plan starts to fail (oder: "backfire"). She dreams of one day living in a big house and being promoted at work, but nothing is like it is in her dreams (oder: "but the reality is nothing like her dreams"). By the end of the song, history has repeated and she has taken the place of her mother, who hadexactly the same problems.
In my opinion,I think that (mit "in my opinion" hast du ja sowieso schon angedeutet, dass du jetzt deine Meinung vermitteln willst) the parents are to blame for the girl's unhappy life. I understandwhy this girl wantedto escape; after all, nobody wantssuch a miserable existence. And I think when she leave her home lonely than she might a happy life. Dieser Satz ist auch ganz schwer zu verstehen. Was war dein Ausgangssatz? I thinkthat all she ever wantedwas to live a little bit of the American Dream.

Hi Alle! :big_thumb:

Ich könnte mir vorstellen, dass Hilal in etwa das Folgende ausdrücken wollte?!
She seems to be certain that no one considered them to be of any importance. / oder viel einfacher: that nobody took notice of them.
And I think that if she had left her home without her good-for-nothing boyfriend, she might have led a happy life.
Schönes Lied!
Erinnert mich an meine mittlere Jugend... :chief:

Interpretation

The song text “Fast car” by Tracy Chapman takes part of a girl who wants to leave her home. She tries to leave because her father doesn’t work and is an alcoholic. Her mother has leaved them because she can’t live her own life according to her wishes because her father has confined it. So the girl moves with her boyfriend to the city. They move with a fast car. In the end was it not what she has imagined. Her boyfriend doesn’t look after them he drinks all day in a bar, and she works at a market as a checkout girl. However, at the end nothing was how she wants it.

The young girl in the text was unhappy because in line 6, she said:” anyplace is better
starting from zero got nothing to lose”. She shows an unhappy life, because her father has a drinking problem and her mother leaves their home. She quit her education to work and look after her father. With all the problems, the girl wants to have a new life, but she hasn’t any idea how it is to have an own life At the line 16, you can see that the girl sees her own life as a nothing,(line 16: and finally see what it means to be living). So she thinks that she is a nobody because in line 34 she said: “I had a feeling I could be someone
be someone be someone”.
She means

that

they

would otherwise

not

be responsible for

important. And when she drives with the car she knows that she is someone, too. I have the impression that the girl has the feeling, that she is a special person because she was in a fast car. The turning point in this song text is in line 51, because from this moment her plan starts to fail. She dreams from a big house and a promotion in her job. However, nothing is like as in her dreams. And at last she takes the place from her mother because her mother had the same problems like the girl.

In my opinion are the parents from the girl blame for her unhappy life. I understand her escape because nobody wants an unhappy life. And I think that she might have a happy life, if she leaves her home alone. I think

all she ever wants was to live a little bit of the American Dream.

Und ich würde (gerne) eine neue Korrektur anbieten, hättest du meine erste nicht zum größten Teil ignoriert. In dem Sinne verweise ich an meinen ersten Beitrag, denn die meisten Fehler bleiben gleich.
