Immigration in the United States

The population of the United States has risen in the last years significantly and we could see a change of the background of the immigrants. In the beginning of the 19th century most of the immigrants came from Europe an only a small number from Latin America and Asia. Today this number has changed. Over half of the immigrants came from Latin America, a quarter from Asia and only 15 % from Europe. There are two several kinds of immigrants. On the one hand the illegal immigrants, who have a visa and a green card, so they are allowed to stay in the U.S. for a certain time and on the other hand there are more and more illegal immigrants, who have no documents. The majority of the illegal immigrants are male and aged between 18 and 39. Some of them enter the country illegally by resorting to the assistance of human smugglers. One reason of the growth of the population is surely that the people want to life the American Dream. But the major reason is that the immigrants hope that they have be a better living standard in the U.S. ., because they can improve the quality of life, they have a lower cost of living and also financial opportunities. Furthermore it’s an easy transition due to the similar language and the ethic communities.

Another reason for the growth of the immigrants, especially from Latin America could also be that countries like Mexico has many social and economical problems. One significant problem is that there are not enough jobs. Every year about one Million Mexicans enter the labor market but the economy creates only a few jobs. Another problem is that the Chinese produce much cheaper compared to the conditions of Mexico. To reduce the emigration in Mexico they need far reaching reforms of the labor market, investment policy and a tax reform.
